Living Walls in Norfolk
The Benefits of A Living Wall
Are you looking to make a statement that your company is serious about its commitment to the environment? What better way to say it than through a living wall in your office or reception area. Also known as green walls, these systems can be designed with self-watering, making sure each plant gets exactly the right amount of water it needs to thrive. If space is at a premium, but the benefits of plants still required for an effective workplace, these are a striking solution that will continue to inspire for many years to come.
Evidence of the benefits of installing a living wall are widely acknowledged by experts worldwide. Air temperature in cities is influenced by vegetation and plants growth. Not only do living walls help to regulate air temperature externally, they assist in the fight against pollution and air-quality internally.
Aztec Plants have many years of experience in the selection, design, installation and maintenance of green walls. It’s what we do. Our strong advise is to get professional help in the planning stage. Not every plant is suitable for a living wall, and the finished product needs to justify multiple times the original expenditure.
The History of Indoor Living Walls
The first prototype of a living wall was built in 1938 at the home of a Mr Stanley Hart White, who at the time was a Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Illinois. Although it didn’t progress further, he patented it as a “vegetation-Bearing Architectonic Structure and System”.
The professor was ahead of his time because the first recorded successful green wall was installed in Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris almost years later. In 1985 three persons were involved in the concept through to execution and included the famous botanist, Patrick Blanc, who specialised in tropical forest undergrowth. Assisted by an engineer Peter Rice, and the architect Adrien Fainsilber this concept was firmly established and gave rise to a surge of popularity over the following years. That trend is stronger in the UK than in most other parts of the world, and reflects the city environmental challenges. Even today, the internet shows that search volume is still increasing for this type of product.
